Nigeria Must Surpass Last Common Wealth Games – Former AFN Technical Director, Nesiama

As events are gradually taking shape in the Common Wealth Games in Birmingham United Kingdom, team Nigeria have started gathering the medals where expected and are standing relevantly on the medals table now. It’s no doubt that one of Nigeria’s strength lies on the track and field events in an international competition like this even though Boxing and Power Lifting gave the country the most medals in the last edition.

Joining the athletes in showing optimism for top performance and surpassing that of the last outing, Rt. Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama has charged team Nigeria to do better than last time, saying performing below is not acceptable. The former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria has backed team Nigeria to shine in the Common Wealth Games, not just to shine but also to do well by surpassing the achievement of the last outing held in 2018 in the Gold Coast as the team is one of the best performers in the games in time past. “They should be able to do very well in the Common Wealth Games, not just the sprints but in other events as well.

“I hope they should do better than they did in that last Common Wealth Games” The day five of the event will usher in the beginning of Para-athletics and Track and Field which bolsters Nigeria’s chances to climb up the table. Nigeria has already won some gold medals in Power Lifting. In Australia four years ago, Nigeria finished 9th with 9 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals. Two of the Gold Medals came from the tracks, other from Boxing and Power Lifting.
