Nigeria is not a failure but it’s time to go back to grassroot boxing- Ike Enwereuzor

By Samuel Bamisebi

Boxing is a fast rising sport in Nigeria with many tournament and bouts being organised such as the GoTV boxing night, and many others.

Jacboxer Promotions have decided to discover more boxing talents in Nigeria by going to the grassroots to find these boxers. President of Jacboxer Promotions, Ike Enwereuzor, in a chat with Sports247 thanked fans of boxing for their patience as last year was a strange year due to covid-19 pandemic but says 2021 will be different.

“We’re in communication with many states in Nigeria now, to organise grassroots boxing. Let’s start from the bottom once again and see what we can bring to the top. If we build a better foundation, I think we’ll have a better generation,” said President Ike.

“Our whole idea has always been building today for tomorrow, not building today for today. Therefore We’re going to start with grassroot boxing. We’re in communication with Kano state Delta state, Abia state, Lagos state, Akwa Ibom and few other states in Nigeria,” he said.

The president praises the little efforts put into professional boxing in Nigeria but states that there are a lot of mismanagement and mishandling. So going back to find talents from the roots rather than the top is the best.

Ike Enwereuzor, president of Jacboxer Promotions, also made it clear that boxing in Nigeria is not a failure but it’s time to go back to grassroot boxing.
