Nigeria Gets Another Chance To Make History At FIFA’s Maiden U15 World Cup

Nigeria will get another chance to make history in the global football annals with a possible conquest of the maiden FIFA U-15 World Cup, Sports247 reports.

This could come in the form of repeating what was achieved when FIFA initially came out with the then U16 World Cup hosted by China, which Nigeria’s boys’ squad won in 1983.

Nigeria’s unsung squad, which was at that time stylized as ‘Baby Eagles,’ romped to victory against West Germany in the final, to become the first African nation to win a FIFA-organized competition.

Although Nigeria’s under-15 boys’ team placed third at the recent WAFU-B qualifiers in Burkina Faso, expectations are high that they could use that experience as a steppingstone to global success.

Should that be the case, the Nigerian squad could step out as pioneer champions of the new-look competition which was announced on Wednesday by the FIFA Council.

Sports247 gathered further that the new boys’ global competition scheduled for next year and a girls’ event in 2027 will both be open to all 211 FIFA member associations.
