Nigeria Cycling Announces President Tinubu National Championship

In celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s first 100 days in office, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has unveiled plans for the President Tinubu National Championship.

Femi Thomas, a former cyclist and CFN board member, shared that the tournament aims to showcase President Tinubu’s significant contributions to sports during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State.

Additionally, Thomas highlighted that the National Cycling Team has commenced preparations for the upcoming World Cycling Championship scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from August 3 to August 13. Recognizing the importance of support from the government and corporate entities, Thomas urged their assistance in bolstering the national team’s efforts.

Thomas stated, “Team Nigeria has been in camp for over two months in Abuja, and the federation is dedicated to ensuring our country excels in Glasgow. While cycling continues to gain momentum in Nigeria, there is still more work to be done to meet international standards.”

He emphasized the necessity of sponsors and government support to facilitate the growth of the sport. Key factors such as high-quality equipment, comprehensive welfare packages for athletes, and well-organized competitions are vital in propelling cycling to new heights within Nigeria.

Thomas further emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the government and corporate bodies to establish the necessary measures that motivate cyclists to perform at their best.

The President Tinubu National Championship presents a valuable opportunity for organizations to promote their brands while contributing to the development of cycling in Nigeria.

Furthermore, it serves as a gateway for potential investments in the country. Thomas commended President Tinubu’s passion for sports, evident during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State, and expressed confidence in his continued support for sporting endeavours.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR assumed office as the 16th President of Nigeria on May 29th.
