Nigeria Cricket Star Okpe Takes Five Wickets: Man of the Match Credits Teamwork After Win Over Zambia

Nigeria’s rising cricket sensation Isaac Okpe produced a brilliant spell to claim 5 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs, steering the Yellow Greens to a dominant victory over Zambia in Match 10 of the 2025 West Africa Trophy.

But despite his spectacular personal performance, Okpe insists the credit belongs to the entire team.

“This award is not just mine, it belongs to the whole team. Everyone supported me, and every wicket counted,” he said after receiving the Man of the Match honour.

Okpe’s explosive bowling display dismantled Zambia’s middle order and gave Nigeria full control of the game. His accuracy, pace variation and tactical awareness stood out, underscoring why he is considered one of the most promising bowlers in Nigerian cricket.

“Cricket demands focus and consistency. I just tried to stay disciplined and execute the plans we talked about,” he explained.

The bowler said the victory was a result of the team’s collective discipline, with both the batting and bowling departments showing improvements compared to earlier matches in the tournament.

“Everyone played their part, from the fielders to the batters to the bowlers. It was a full team effort,” Okpe added.

He emphasized that while the win was encouraging, the team must continue building momentum, especially as the competition gets tougher.

“We can’t relax. There are more games to play, and we must stay sharp. The goal is to keep improving,” he said.

Okpe, who has been steadily developing his game over recent seasons, said he is motivated to contribute even more for Nigeria as the Yellow Greens push for a strong finish in the West Africa Trophy.

“I’ll keep working hard. Every match is an opportunity to learn and get better,” he stated.

He concluded by reaffirming his pride in representing the country:

“It’s always special to play for Nigeria. I’m grateful for the support, and I want to keep giving my best.”
