A Huge Win for Nigeria and African Sports
Reacting to the announcement, Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), couldn’t hide his pride and excitement.
“This is a huge win for Nigeria and for the future of sports development on the continent. Our successful bid is a testament to the unhinged commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to sports excellence.”
Olopade emphasized that the victory aligns perfectly with the government’s Renewed Hope Mandate, signaling Nigeria’s bold return to the spotlight as a beacon of sporting excellence in Africa.
“In 2027, Nigeria will deliver an unforgettable experience for young athletes from across the continent,” he assured.
Track Record That Turned Heads
Nigeria’s selection was heavily influenced by its proven capacity to host large-scale international competitions. Recent successes such as the National Sports Festival and the 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships showcased the country’s growing reputation for world-class organization, hospitality, and sporting infrastructure.

Hon. Olopade, alongside Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), led Nigeria’s bid delegation in Algiers and secured overwhelming support from member nations.
