The TGL concept was founded by global golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, in collaboration with TMRW Sports.
“Nigeria has taken a bold step by becoming the first African nation to embrace the TGL concept,” Runsewe said. “This is about modernising golf, attracting young people and positioning Nigeria as a leader in sports innovation.”
The TGL format introduces a fast-paced, team-based structure that incorporates high-tech golf simulators, immersive digital environments and real-time fan engagement.
According to Runsewe, the model is designed to make golf more accessible, entertaining and appealing to a wider audience, especially younger players and fans.
“This initiative will revolutionise golf in Nigeria,” he added. “It brings excitement, speed and technology into the game while preserving its core values.”
Runsewe explained that the Nigeria Golf Federation plans to use the TGL platform to drive grassroots development, talent discovery and increased participation across the country.
He noted that the new format would complement existing competitions while opening fresh pathways for young golfers to develop their skills in a modern setting.
“Our goal is to grow the sport sustainably,” he said. “With TGL, we can discover new talents, improve competitiveness and expose Nigerian golfers to global standards.”
The NGF president also called on private investors, sponsors and stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing that innovation and partnerships are key to unlocking the full potential of golf in Nigeria.
With the introduction of TGL, Nigeria has positioned itself at the forefront of golf innovation in Africa, reinforcing its ambition to expand the sport beyond traditional boundaries and inspire a new generation of golfers nationwide.
