Nigeria Athletes Depart For African Taekwondo Championship In Rwanda

Nigeria Taekwondo Federation athletes and officials on Wednesday departed to compete in the Africa Taekwondo G-4 Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, Sport247 gathered.

The athletes have been in camp at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium training in preparation for the championship.

The Taekwondo Team comprises two female and four male which includes; Chinazum Nwozu (Athletes Rep.) who will be fighting in the female -53kg, Shola Olowookere will be competing in the male -74kg, Benjamin Okuomose male +87Kg, Bright Paul Kolade -80Kg and Elizabeth Anyanacho who will compete in the female -67kg and will be joining the team from Germany. Anyanacho competed in the last Olympic games, Tokyo 2020. Haruna Usman will be competing in the Poomsae competition discipline of the championship.

In a press briefing with the Technical Director of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Egwim John Osita who had monitored the training of the athletes since the camping exercise began, believed that the athletes will do Nigeria proud in Kigali. He said;

“I want to appreciate and commend the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Abdullahi Saidu Baba for his efforts and support in assuring representation of Nigeria in this championship edition and the training preparation.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Abdullahi Saidu Baba in his word wishes the athletes the best urging them to also be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

“I want to also wish the contingent well in their trip to Rwanda and focus to win all the medals available and enjoy their stay.”

“I won’t forget to commend and appreciate the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare for all his support in making sure Taekwondo achieved greater heights in the world at large.” He concluded.
