Nigeria Aquatics Federation Partners NUGA to Discover, Nurture Future Aquatic Stars

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports development through a strategic partnership with the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA), aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents in swimming and other aquatic disciplines.

President of the Federation, Dr. Dukwu Nnamdi Chamberlain, made this known in Abuja during the 27th edition of the Nigeria University Games, where swimming events were jointly organized by NAqF and NUGA.

He noted that the collaboration is already producing positive outcomes, with several promising athletes emerging from the competition.

“I want to first of all appreciate the president and leadership of NUGA for organising this 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games,” Dr. Chamberlain said.

“The swimming event here in Abuja is a collaborative effort between the Aquatics Federation and NUGA. You can see the number of gold medals recorded so far, it shows there is a great future for aquatic sports in Nigeria.”

Dr. Chamberlain described the initiative as a vital step in the nation’s drive to elevate aquatic sports, adding that swimming remains one of Nigeria’s most rewarding medal-producing sports.

“In the committee of sports, aquatic swimming has the highest number of gold medals,” he noted. “If the country focuses on the development of swimming, we will not lack in medal haul at both continental and international meets.”

He further emphasized that the partnership reflects the Federation’s long-term vision to strengthen grassroots participation, enhance athlete development, and create a clear pathway for young talents to represent Nigeria at global competitions.

Dr. Chamberlain reaffirmed NAqF’s commitment to sustaining such collaborations as part of broader efforts to position Nigeria among the leading nations in aquatic sports.
