Nigeria has sent a strong statement to the rest of the continent at the 4th African Youth Games after clinching a prestigious gold medal in table tennis, defeating traditional powerhouse Egypt to emerge champions in the mixed team event.
The Nigerian duo of Matthew Fabunmi and Ojo Favour delivered a composed and disciplined performance in the final, overcoming Egypt by a convincing 2–0 scoreline to secure Nigeria’s first table tennis gold of the Games.

Their victory not only underlined Nigeria’s growing depth in youth table tennis but also marked a symbolic breakthrough against one of Africa’s most dominant nations in the sport.
