American football, a very unfamiliar sport in the Nigerian territory, for now, has caught the eye of its current management who have decided to key into the future of these sports to discover talents and give the opportunity to the young ones to pursue their dreams.

The association held a press conference to that effect, after due collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission, Director of School Sports in Lagos State, President of the association Coach Henry Nwuanyawu who was represented by Babajide Akeredolu, Mr. Abiodun Agbaje the Director New Hall School whose school has been a staunch supporter of the association since 2019 and a few others.

Speaking to Sports247 on the plans and current moves made by the association, secretary to the association Mr. Lawrence Ojaide said the secondary school flag football league qualifiers is just the first edition as there are more to come.

“We just want the youth to know what’s coming up in 2022. We want our students to come on a semi-professional level and the league is coming on for them so as to build them to the professional level,” Lawrence said. “The league is here for them as we have teams with a professional mindset as we call on the community to get ready and other efforts are being put in place,” he added. He also said sponsorships are being put in place even as the students get a chance to be sponsored through their studies to the higher institutions as well through one of the sponsors.

Speaking on the ongoing qualifiers, some games were found to be going on in Diary Farm secondary school. “We have 42 teams taking part in this qualifiers, 19 are female and the rest are male and they are all from 21 schools. This is just the beginning, we have so many schools that want to participate, however, we had to trim it to this first for a start so we have the best selection and concentration,” the secretary concluded.
