A young swimmer from Abia State, Victoria Okolo has revealed that she dumped running to take up her current sport because she loves playing with water.
Okolo told Sports247 at the swimming venue of the ongoing Niger Delta Games in Benin City that she likes the training she is getting under the guidance of her swimming coach in Aba.
She recalled how she was spotted while swimming in a river near her home, after which she was taken to the stadium for proper training and now part of Team Abia at Benin City 2026.
The shy lass thanked her coach and revealed further that this is the first time she will represent Abia State in any competition.
Okolo disclosed, “I picked swimming as a sport because I love it. I like playing with water and I love to swim. That’s how I started swimming in Aba. I used to swim in the river.
“One day, a man came and said he was a swimming coach. He then took me to start training at the stadium, and that’s how they brought me here for Abia State.
“This is my first time of swimming for Abia State. I thank my coach for including me in the team. I used to run relays for my school, but I love swimming more than running.”
