NIBF 2025: Book Fair Aims to Rescue Nigeria’s Education and Grow the Economy

The 24th Nigeria International Book Fair (NIBF) has officially opened today, May 7, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

The fair will run until May 9, bringing together publishers, educators, government officials, and investors to find solutions for Nigeria’s struggling education system and rising book costs.

This year’s theme is “Local Paper Production: Panacea to Affordable Book Production and Quantitative Education.” The goal is to support local paper manufacturing so that books can be made cheaper and more accessible, especially for the millions of Nigerian children who are out of school.

Key speakers include Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, and Rogers Nforgwei, who will share ideas on how to boost local publishing, create jobs, and improve learning nationwide.

With the recent report that most students scored below 200 in the 2025 UTME, the book fair comes at a critical time. Organizers of NIBF hope the event will lead to real action to fix Nigeria’s education challenges and grow the book industry.

Last year’s fair generated over NGN 200 million in book sales, showing its value to the economy. This year, stakeholders from across Africa and beyond are attending to explore partnerships and promote African literature and education
