Liverpool of England’s Nigerian-born youngster, Rio Chima Ngumoha could be rushed into signing a major contract at Anfield anytime soon, as The Reds have suddenly become frantic and almost desperate to tie him down to a deal, Sports247 reports.
The sudden rush erupted on account of another invitation for the 18-year-old Ngumoha to England’s senior naional team, which is considered as a major boost to his fledgling career and would set him up for intensive transfer interest from other top clubs.
The development also comes amidst reported interest in the youngster from Liverpool’s English Premier League rivals, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich of Germany, who have been linked with the fast-rising left-footed winger since his Englnd debut versus New Zealand.
Although Ngumoha played that game as a second half substitute, he ended up emerging as man of the match, thereby leaving many mouths agape and The Three Lions’ coach, Thomas Tuchel wondering if he shouldn’t have included the lad in his World Cup squad.
Few months down the line, Ngumoha has been called-up to star for England in their upcoming European Nations League fixtues and two friendlies against Czech Republic, all of which have woken Liverpool up to the reality that poachers will soon swarm around him.
A report by Tribal Football adds, “The club have taken initial steps towards a new agreement, with conversations held to establish what Ngumoha wants from his next contract and how Liverpool see his pathway developing.
“Having recently turned 18, the winger is now in a position to agree improved terms that better reflect his growing status, profile and potential.
Liverpool’s preference is to conclude an agreement within the next month, which would provide clarity over his future.
“(It would also) end the speculation surrounding his position. There is confidence they will retain him but there has also been interest from outside the Premier League, with Bayern Munich known to be genuine suitors.
“Arsenal remain willing to consider additions in January in any area where they feel their squad is light (but) Liverpool’s intention is to make sure Ngumoha is tied down before he becomes a realistic option for them.”
