NFF’s Top Shots Floored By Barrister Chris Green Over FIFA’s Delay In Announcing Punishment For South Africa

A former technical committee chairman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Chris Green has floored current top shots in the governing body for failing to hasten FIFA’s sanctions against South Africa for using an inelligible player in the World Cup qualifiers.

Sports247 reports that, with the last couple of matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers now looming large at the start of October, Barrister Green opined that the NFF failed to swing an early decision by football’s global body, FIFA, which could have boosted the morale of Super Eagles’ players in their recent game away to Bafana Bafana.

He inferred that the delay by FIFA is simply because egg heads of the NFF lack clues on how to go about the process of putting pressure on the global body to enforce the rules, which he would have done had he still been in the Nigerian federation.

Green strongly declared, “Football is played both inside and outside the field. We should know it, and that’s why we should have experienced people who would be able to handle the affairs of football in this country.

“We cannot rest on our oars, and we must do the same things others are doing if we want to get good results. If we want to get better results, why should we be laid back?”

The sports technocrat and commissioner from Rivers State also recalled how he usually checked through the rule books during his time in the NFF, because he did not want to get involved with a contest in which he lacks knowledge of its regulations.

He recounted, “When I was in the NFF, I wasn’t laid back. Once there was a tournament, the first thing I would do was to go and know the latest rules of the game … because that is what would guide us.

“If I don’t know the rules of the game, why am I entering into the tournament? So, when things like this happen, I know what to do.”

Green concluded with a call on NFF top shots to be proactive in issues that affect protests and sanctions, especially with regards to seeking support from influential people, as he stressed: “I know the persons to meet and what has to be done in order to get justice.”
