An ex-international, Friday Ekpo has blamed the recent financial controversy that rocked Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for Tuesday’s protest, which stalled activities in the Super Eagles’ camp, Sports247 reports.
Ekpo’s verdict comes in the wake of startling reports from the Eagles’ camp in Rabat, Morocco that the players and their officials boycotted training over a catalogue of unpaid dues and demand for ‘special bonus’ at the World Cup qualification play-offs.

The former midfield dazzler inferred that hearing a huge amount of money given by FIFA for the stadium in Kebbi is unaccounted for would instigate the players into agitations for a ‘piece of the cake.’
Ekpo posited, “The NFF should have been accountable for such money before now. They should always put the records straight so the team can work towards the qualification properly.
“It would always distract the players once they know there’s a lot of money available. The players will always ask for a certain amount before they play any game once they know money is available.”
He concluded by stressing that the NFF would keep on causing unrest in the national team’s camp once they fail to show transparency and accountability in all matters concerning grants from CAF and FIFA.
“Once they fail to show accountability on their part, that would bring the morale of our players down. So, let the NFF settle their scores with FIFA and CAF.
“Let them show what they are using the money for … building stadiums, if there are any, or whatever they are doing. Let them show accountability for what they have done with money they receive from FIFA,” Ekpo reiterated.
