NFF To Be Blamed For Chan Eagles Humiliation In Zanzibar

Back in January, Nigeria Football Federation through its president, Ibrahim Gusau, pointed out that the new coach will be the one to lead the Super Eagles B, to the 2024 Africa Cup Championship of Nations, (2024 CHAN) slated for Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

Gusau said : “We have come out with the policy that whoever we employ as the Super Eagles will also be the one to manage the affairs of the CHAN Eagles,” Gusau said in an interview shortly before the announcement of Sekou Eric Chelle.

The above statement fuels several critics on the duo of Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu handling the affairs of the team was the best ever in terms those that really understand the mentality of the home players having spent at least a decade in the league

The team, led by coach Eric Chelle, started their campaign with a 1-0 loss to defending champions Senegal last Tuesday.

The Nigerian men hoped to bounce back and gain hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals of the tournament but were heavily beaten by Sudan with from Leonard Ngenge (own goal), Walieldin Khedr, and Abdel Raouf (2) secured victory for Sudan.

Nigeria remain at the bottom of Group D with zero point, and cannot make it past the group even if they are successful in their final match against Congo.

Senegal and Sudan are now on four points going into the matchday three fixtures, with Congo following on one point.

The CHAN tournament is the only major trophy in Africa yet to be won by Nigeria

NFF and Eric Chelle next task is how the Super Eagles of Nigeria will qualify for the FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico. Super Eagles lie fourth in the six-team Group C on seven points, six points behind leaders South Africa and one behind Rwanda and Benin.
