NFF President Ibrahim Gusau Calls For Unity As League Reform Plans Gather Momentum

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has called on football stakeholders across the country to unite behind the National Sports Commission (NSC) as plans to reform Nigeria’s domestic league gather pace.

Gusau said the proposed reforms present a rare opportunity to reposition the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and urged administrators, club owners, players and the media to embrace dialogue instead of creating divisions over the Commission’s plans.

His comments come amid ongoing consultations between the NSC, the NFF and league stakeholders on a wide-ranging reform agenda aimed at improving governance, player welfare, commercial value and private-sector investment in Nigerian football.

“The National Sports Commission has chosen the path of dialogue rather than imposing directives. As stakeholders, we should work together to ensure these reforms succeed,” Gusau said.

The NFF President noted that meaningful progress can only be achieved through collaboration, stressing that every stakeholder has a role to play in building a stronger and more competitive domestic league.

Gusau also expressed optimism that the proposed reforms would create a better environment for clubs, players and investors, helping Nigerian football realise its enormous commercial potential.

“If we all support the process, Nigerian football will benefit. This is an opportunity to move the league forward, and we must embrace it with a common purpose,” he added.

The NFF has continued to work closely with the National Sports Commission on several strategic initiatives aimed at improving football administration, while both bodies have reiterated their commitment to building a sustainable and professionally run domestic league.

Discussions on the proposed reforms are expected to continue in the coming months as the NSC and NFF engage key stakeholders on the next phase of plans to strengthen the future of Nigerian football.
