The president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has come out with an emphatic declaration that the soccer governing body is ready to make the national team, Super Eagles, shine at the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualification play-offs in Morocco.

The NFF’s top shot added that the football body is working closely with officials of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) in order to make the best use of this second chance that the Super Eagles now have in qualifying for next year’s Mundial.

Gusau said: “We are highly excited because our hope has been rekindled, and we are going for the play-offs next week. By the grace of God, we’ll take it from there. I want to assure Nigerians that we are truly ready for it.

“We are doing everything possible with the government through the National Sports Commission to ensure that everything needed for us to prepare the team well is provided. Let’s go and see how it will work.”

Sports247 adds that the upcoming four-nation contest in Morocco is the first step in the new look play-offs route to the World Cup, as the winner next weekend will still have to play at the intercontinental level in March 2026.

Victory for Nigeria over Gabon on Thursday will see them await the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo, following which the top team will move on to Mexico for a six-nation contest from which only two will make it to the World Cup.
