NFF Former Technical Committee Member Declares: Let’s Leave Eric Chelle Alone

A former member of the technical committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Austel Elumelu has charged all lovers of the round leather game and analysts to leave Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Eric Sekou Chelle alone, Sports247 reports.

With two crucial matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers knocking on the door – versus Rwanda in Uyo on September 6th and away to South Africa on the 9th – Elumelu reckoned that Chelle needs maximum concentration to plot winning strategies for both games.

The outspoken technocrat stressed, “At this time, the best thing is to leave him alone. Let’s just leave him alone, because this is now a very critical point.

“He should know the players who have delivered in the past for him and now narrow his selection down to those who can help him achieve the next purpose.”

Elumelu went on to infer that no new player should be brought into the Eagles’ mainframe at this point in time, as he harped on the need for blending, bonding and proper understanding among all players who will prosecute both upcoming ties.

He reasoned further, “When you are selecting a team, you go for people who already have the right synergy with themselves and understand one another when they play together.

“Even when you see somebody who appears to be better, that player might not be able to fit in. So, it is better that those players who he has been using are the ones he will still use.”

Elumelu concluded by stressing: “The best thing is to leave him alone or tomorrow he will say there was interference.

“The best thing is to allow him do his thing to the best of his ability. Otherwise, we would distort his arrangements.”
