The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has redeemed its pledge to the Super Falcons by paying 30 percent of the $1 million prize money the team earned for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
According Prompt News, the NFF, led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, disbursed $300,000 (about ₦450 million) directly to the players.

The payment fulfills the agreement reached with the squad before the tournament, ensuring they received their rightful share of the prize money.
Beyond the prize share, the federation also settled full camp allowances and match-winning bonuses for all players, coaching crew, and backroom staff.
These payments, running into several millions of naira, were complemented by additional rewards and receptions organized by NFF corporate sponsors when the team returned from Morocco in July.
The Falcons’ remarkable campaign in Morocco was capped with a dramatic 3-2 victory over the host nation in the July 26 final to a record extending 10th title.
Thus Nigeria the first beneficiary of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) newly increased prize package.
CAF had earlier announced a 100 percent increment in the champions’ prize money, raising the figure to $1 million.
Nigeria’s success also drew presidential recognition.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on behalf of a grateful nation, rewarded each squad member with $100,000, national honours, and a three-bedroom apartment.
The gesture underscored the government’s appreciation of the Falcons’ achievement and their role in elevating Nigeria’s status in women’s football.
The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s football team, cemented their legacy further with another continental triumph.
They deservedly got record-breaking financial rewards, boosting morale ahead of future international competitions.
