A new chapter has begun for Nigerian sports as the National Sports Commission (NSC) inaugurated newly elected Presidents and Board Members across 18 sports federations at a colourful ceremony held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The elections, which ushered in a mix of fresh faces and experienced administrators, mark a significant step towards reforming the management and growth of Nigerian sports.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, congratulated the newly elected members, describing their emergence as a “call to service, innovation, and accountability.” He reminded them that the responsibility before them extends beyond ceremony, urging each federation to operate with transparency and deliver tangible results.
> “This is a call to be active, innovative, and results-driven,” Dikko said. “We must translate our investments into measurable outcomes — from competitive athletes to good governance, capacity building, and youth engagement. Accountability and unity are key to our progress.”
The NSC Chairman also called for stronger collaboration among athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators, stressing that only collective effort can propel Nigerian sports to global prominence.
Speaking at the event, Director General of the National Sports Commission, Honourable Bukola Olopade, commended Dikko for his leadership throughout the electoral process. He lauded the integrity of electoral officers and the dedication of outgoing administrators, while acknowledging the Federal Government’s continued investment in athlete welfare, infrastructure renewal, and grassroots development.
“This new mandate demands integrity, innovation, and commitment,” Olopade told the new board members. “You’ve been given a clean slate — what you write on it will define the future of Nigerian sports.”
Olopade charged them to uphold transparency, improve domestic competitions, and create economic value through sports, while reinforcing patriotism and sustainability in every aspect of administration.
The event also featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, including Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, who praised the NSC’s visionary leadership, and Mr. Uyi Akpata, President of the Cricket Federation, who commended the Commission’s dedication to grassroots sports development.
As Nigeria’s sports landscape enters a new phase, the message from the top is clear — accountability, innovation, and results will define the next generation of sports leadership.
