New Chess Federation President, Senator Dankwambo Outlines Vision to Nurture Talent from Primary Schools to Higher Institutions

    The newly elected President of the Chess Federation of Nigeria, NCF, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the chess landscape in the country through grassroots development and institutional engagement.

    Speaking after his election, Senator Dankwambo—who currently represents Gombe North in the Senate and is a former Governor of Gombe State—said his leadership would be defined by innovation, professionalism, and integrity.

    “My vision is to foster an inclusive, dynamic, and highly professional chess ecosystem that nurtures talent from grassroots schools to higher institutions across Nigeria,” he stated.

    He described his election as both a personal honour and a collective milestone for Nigerian chess, adding that the inauguration of the new board marks a new era for the federation.

    “As your President, I pledge to maintain an open-door policy, welcoming your insights, creativity, and free-flowing ideas without hesitation,” Dankwambo said. “Our collective efforts and innovative thinking will be essential to driving the federation forward, ensuring progress and success for Nigerian chess.”

    Dankwambo also emphasized the importance of collaboration among board members and the need to build sustainable partnerships that will raise the sport’s profile both nationally and internationally.

    He pledged to “forge corporate alliances that facilitate increased participation, heightened competitive standards, and enhanced visibility on national and international stages.”

    In his remarks, the new Chess Federation president also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing board, led by DIG Sani U. Mohammed (Rtd.) and Vice President Adewole Adeyinka Samuel.

    “I pay special tribute to our immediate past President, DIG Sani U. Mohammed (Rtd.), and Vice President, Adewole Adeyinka Samuel, whose dedication and professionalism have significantly contributed to the growth and reputation of Nigerian chess. Their legacy serves as a beacon for our future endeavours,” Dankwambo concluded.
