“New Challenge Excites Ajayi” – Super Eagles Defender Now a Tiger

Hull City have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Femi Ajayi on a two-year contract, with an option for a third year, following his departure from West Bromwich Albion.

The 31-year-old defender, who brings vast experience with over 200 appearances in the English Championship, will officially join the Tigers on July 1. Ajayi, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, is expected to be a key addition as the club sets its sights on a strong campaign in the upcoming season.

“I’m really excited,” Ajayi said after sealing the deal. “I spoke to the sporting director and head of recruitment, and they sold me on the club’s vision and their plans. The club wants to challenge at the top end of the league, and that’s where I see myself fitting in.”

He added, “I bring Championship know-how, experience and leadership. I’m comfortable on the ball, strong in the air, and my pace is an asset. I had a great six years at West Brom, but now I’m hungry for a new challenge and eager to prove myself again.”

Ajayi made 177 appearances and scored 13 goals during his six-year spell at West Brom, playing a vital role in their 2019/20 promotion-winning campaign and featuring in 33 Premier League matches the following season. Last term, he helped the Baggies reach the Championship play-offs.

Before his time at The Hawthorns, Ajayi was a standout performer for Rotherham United, where he netted 15 goals in 108 appearances and helped the club achieve promotion via the League One play-offs in the 2017/18 season.

His career journey also includes stints at Charlton Athletic, Arsenal, Crewe Alexandra, AFC Wimbledon, and Dartford.

On the international stage, Ajayi has been capped 43 times by the Super Eagles of Nigeria and played every minute of their run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
