NBBF Will Respect FIBA Verdict on Tenure Dispute — Musa Kida

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Musa Kida, has assured stakeholders that his board will respect whatever decision is reached by the global governing body International Basketball Federation regarding the ongoing tenure dispute within the federation.

The crisis over the leadership of the federation has generated significant debate among basketball stakeholders in Nigeria, with different interpretations about the actual expiration date of the current board’s tenure.

Speaking on the matter, Kida emphasized that the federation is committed to allowing FIBA to carefully examine the situation and provide clarity.

“We will accept whatever verdict is given by FIBA,” Kida stated.

According to him, the leadership of the federation is focused on ensuring that the dispute does not further disrupt basketball activities in the country.

“Our priority is to ensure that the growth of basketball in Nigeria is not affected by administrative disagreements,” he explained.

The NBBF president acknowledged that the ongoing uncertainty has created concerns among stakeholders and fans, but insisted that steps are being taken to resolve the matter peacefully.

“Efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues that have slowed down the development of the game in recent times,” he added.

Kida further revealed that communication with FIBA is ongoing as the world basketball body continues to review the situation and determine the appropriate course of action.

“FIBA is already working to address the situation and we are cooperating fully,” he said.

The federation has in recent years overseen several achievements by Nigeria’s national basketball teams, including strong performances by Nigeria women’s national basketball team and Nigeria men’s national basketball team in continental and global competitions.

Kida expressed optimism that once the leadership issue is settled, the federation can fully concentrate on developing the sport and strengthening Nigeria’s presence in international basketball.

“Our goal is to move forward and continue building Nigerian basketball,” he concluded.
