NBBF Releases D’Tigers Provisional List Ahead of 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has unveiled a 17-man provisional roster for the senior men’s national team, D’Tigers, ahead of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket tournament scheduled to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.

Leading the squad is NBA star and Houston Rockets’ latest signing, Josh Okogie, who makes a return to the national team after a lengthy absence. The former Phoenix Suns guard last featured for Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Also making the roster is Caleb Agada, a key figure in the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) championship-winning side. Agada, who currently plays for Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya, is among several top talents called up for national duty.

Veterans such as Ike Nwamu, Mike Nuga, and Talib Zanna bring experience to the team, while BAL standouts Peter Olisemeka (Rivers Hoopers, Nigeria) and Devine Eke (ASCVD, Senegal) have also been rewarded with call-ups following impressive continental campaigns.

The full provisional list includes:
Josh Okogie, Caleb Agada, Ike Nwamu, Mike Nuga, Talib Zanna, Peter Olisemeka, Devine Eke, Kareem Joseph, Wesley Iwundu, Ugochukwu Simon, Stanley Okoye, Folabomi Fayemi, Emmanuel Omogbo, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, and Jekiri Tonye.

Notably absent is Chimezie Metu, a key player for the team in recent years, who is currently sidelined due to a long-term injury.

This will be Nigeria’s first major competition since August 2023, when D’Tigers competed in the FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Lagos, falling short of qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The team is expected to open camp next week to begin final preparations, after which the list will be trimmed down to the final 12-man squad.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group B, alongside defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar. D’Tigers will kick off their campaign on August 13 against Madagascar, face Tunisia on August 15, and round off the group stage against Cameroon on August 17.

The knockout phase will begin on August 18, with the final slated for August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda, Angola.
