National Youth Games: Oniusiriuka Shines As Lagos Scoops Nine Medals In Gymnastics

Team Lagos is raising the bar higher at the ongoing 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, as the gymnasts hauled another nine medals in different events.

Leading the charge is Oniusiriuka Stephanie, who successfully bagged 3 gold and 2 silver Medals, followed by Emeka Sunday, a gold medallist in boy’s floor; Adetutu Kareem, bronze medal in vault and best boy’s overall.

The quartet of Oniusiriuka, Promise, Boluwatife, and Tamarawomomoemi took a silver medal in the girls’ team event.

In the boy’s team event, Kareem, Sunday, Oluwatobi, and Amos clinched silver medals in the category.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, after the medals presentation ceremony, Oniusiriuka expressed satisfaction with the level of her performance in the gymnastics events.

The 14 year old mined gold in vault, girl’s all-around best and beam while her two silver medals came from girl’s floor and team event respectively.

As the overall best girl in her event, she expressed excitement with her achievements at the 2025 NYG. “I’m very happy that l won three gold and two silver medals. I actually prepared for the competition as a young gymnast. Every day before I come to training,I always talk to myself and try to make the best of myself so that anytime I am in training, I always try as much as possible to improve on my artistic skills.”

She expressed her gratitude to God for the opportunity to compete, her coaches for their unwavering support, helping her secure the multiple medals, and appreciative to Lagos State Sports Commission for being part of the team.
