National Sports Festival Abuja 2018: Ogun State Enter Abuja 2018 NSF With Tales Of Woe

Ogun State’s contingent to this year’s National Sports Festival entered the competition in Abuja with tales of woe, sports247.ng can report.

This is sequel to the near tragedy faced by the team on their road trip to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as they had a fire incident and survived a robbery attack.

Details of the report reaching sports247.ng revealed that the Rock City State’s team escaped a robbery attack at Ilesha, Osun state and survived an explosion in Obajana, Kogi State.

The team had early signs of trouble lying ahead of them, as they could not leave Abeokuta until around 5pm on Wednesday after a contractor failed to deliver their kit on schedule, only for them to end up facing difficulties in a night trip to Abuja.

Along the line, athletes and coaches lost cash and kits to the fire accident in Obajana, after which the delegation’s first batch arrived Abuja at midnight and others got there around 5am.

One of the officials disclosed: “After escaping the attack, one of the buses conveying some officials was gutted by fire around Obajana.

“We lost thousands of naira, some of the athletes’ kits and other valuable properties. We thank God that no life was lost.

“The athletes are already fatigued. I wish them the very best as some of them participate in the table tennis and para powerlifting events.”
