National Sports Festival 2018: Beating Oshonaike Was Like A Dream – Aregbesola

Lagos State female table tennis revelation, Nimota Aregbesola has described her victory at the 19th National Sports Festival against renowned international, Funke Oshonaike as a dream.

Sports247.ng can report that, after pulling off the biggest shock so far in the ping-pong events of NSF 2018 in Abuja, Aregbesola admitted it was a surprise to send Oshonaike packing, but admits she will quickly have to wake up in order to go all the way to the gold medal.

Aregbesola vowed to work even harder, after silencing Germany-based Oshonaike 4-3 in the quarter-finals of the women’s singles event.

Oshonaiake, who is also a seven-time Olympian, failed to rise to the occasion against the highly-inspired Aregbesola, who defied all odds to enact an upset and advance to the semi-finals.

After the shock win, Aregbesola, who was runner-up at the 2018 Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship in Lagos, was all tears, as she marveled over her historic achievement.

The Ikorodu-born Aregbesola said: “I can’t believe that I won this match. Am I dreaming?

“The joy in me knows no bounds because I never thought I could beat her when we started the game.

“Beating a star player like Funke Oshonaike at this stage of my career is a big achievement which I will savour for a long time to come.

“She is a player I look up to playing someday with but not to the extent of beating her. I must confess, it’s just like a dream for me.”
