Nathaniel Ogbeta Seeks Career Revival At Maritimo Of Portugal, After Shock Release By Plymouth Argyle

Former Plymouth Argyle of England and Swansea City of Wales left-back, Nathaniel Simeon Ogbeta has moved to CS Maritimo of Portugal is search of a revival for his career, which got a dip when he was released by the English lower division outfit at the end of his contract in May.

Sports247 reports that the 25-year-old defender, who was born to Nigerian parents in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, has already linked up with Marítimo’s squad in Lousada for their pre-season preparations.

Ogbeta will bring to Maritimo’s squad valuable experience he gained from playing in England’s Championship and League One, as well as 20 appearances for Argyle during his first campaign, before he was loaned to Barnsley for the entirety of last season.

The Nigerian-born full-back, who also boasts of some appearances for his country of birth at youth level and was a product of Manchester City’s academy, joined Argyle as the club’s first signing under their former coach and Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney.

Having also previously played for Shrewsbury Town, Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers, Ogbeta will aim for better pickings in his first spell outside England, as he eyes a new lease of life at Maritimo, who have Nigerian ex-international, Richard Owubokiri among their array of former players.

Sports247 reports further that Ogbeta, whose sister, Naomi is an athlete, is of Nigerian and Jamaican descent, but opted for a career with England at youth level and debuted for the Lions’ under-20 squad on March 29th, 2022, during a 3-1 victory over Germany in Colchester.
