The call for increased backing for the state-owned football teams comes with a focus on Nasarawa United’s bid to qualify for the Nigeria Premier Football League in the upcoming season.

Chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, the meeting held on Monday at the Organization’s Board Room in Lafia acknowledged the unwavering support provided by the Jibrin Ali Baggio-led Supporters’ Club to Nasarawa United. Danladi commended their dedication and urged them to maintain the momentum until the club returns to the top flight.

While emphasizing the importance of continued support for NPFL side Lobi Stars, who have chosen Lafia City Stadium as their home ground this season, Danladi expressed concern over an incident during the match-day 14 game between Lobi Stars and Doma United over the weekend. He deemed the incident unacceptable to the Nasarawa State Government and its citizens.

Danladi highlighted that the incident indicated a potential leadership divide within the Supporters’ Club, which could have disrupted the unified support for Lobi Stars.

He reiterated the government and people’s steadfast support for both Lobi Stars and Nasarawa United, emphasizing the shared camaraderie between Nasarawa and Benue States, leading to Lobi Stars adopting Lafia City Stadium as their alternative home ground for the 2023/24 NPFL Season.

Calling for unity and transparency within the Supporters’ Club, Danladi urged its leadership to prevent any actions that could sow discord or bring the league into disrepute.

He underscored Nasarawa State’s reputation for peace, hospitality, and harmonious co-existence.

Jibrin Ali Baggio, Chairman of Nasarawa United Football Supporters’ Club, expressed regret for the incident during the NPFL match-day 14 game and pledged to restore discipline within the team to ensure better conduct in future matches.
