The Technical Director of the Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED), Sholademi Damilola, has assured stakeholders that preparations for the forthcoming National Open Archery Championship are progressing steadily and in line with the federation’s vision to elevate the sport across the country.

Speaking on the level of readiness ahead of the championship, Sholademi disclosed that the technical department has been working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to deliver a competition that meets both national and international standards.
He noted that the championship is expected to attract participants from several states, clubs, as well as military and paramilitary institutions, making it one of the most competitive archery events in Nigeria this year.
According to him, the federation has intensified coordination with participating teams to ensure proper registration, compliance with competition guidelines, and adequate technical preparations for the tournament.
Sholademi emphasized that the championship will serve as a vital platform for talent discovery, athlete development, and the continued growth of archery in Nigeria.
“The National Open Championship remains a key event in our calendar. It provides an opportunity to discover new talents, evaluate athletes’ performance, and further strengthen the technical development of archery across the country,” he said.
He also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Archery Federation for its commitment to expanding the reach of the sport, while encouraging more states and clubs to take advantage of the open registration to be part of the event.
The championship is scheduled to take place from April 20–26, 2026, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
NAFED reaffirmed its commitment to organizing a successful and memorable championship that will further position archery as a fast-growing sport within Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
