Sports247 reports that, though he noted that the Eagles could not reach the final, ‘The Headmaster’ said he was happy with the team’s all-round performance during the competition.
He hailed Franco-Malian tactician, Eric Sekou Chelle for beefing up the squad with some new players and adding tactical innovations to their style, then opined that they will further improve once the lads can stick together longer.
“It was a good tournament for us. Though we did not get to the final, our players played very good football. The coach made some tactical changes in the team, which were very good ideas,” Mutiu pointed out.
He then served a strong hint that top shots of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should allow the coach and players remain together, as that would keep them on the same trajectory for better results in days to come.
Mutiu, who earlier played for Real Madrid’s B-squad as well as Real Sociedad FC in Spain and was part of Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON winning squad in Tunisia, posited, “It was a good tournament for Nigeria.
“All they have to do now is continue with the same vibe, the same energy, and just take it up from there. That’s what they have to do to ensure that they continue improving.
“I believe we have good players. So, we should just keep them and make sure that they continue playing together. Once we do that, they will continue doing well.”
