Morocco 2025: Flamingos Suffer Heavy Defeat at FIFA U17 Women World Cup Opener vs Canada

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, suffered a disappointing start to their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign, losing 4–1 to Canada on Sunday in Morocco.

Canada made an explosive start, with Gabriella Istocki finding the net just two minutes into the match. The Flamingos, however, fought back and drew level in the 30th minute through Queen Joseph’s fine finish, ensuring the teams went into halftime tied at 1–1.

The second half proved decisive as Canada took full control. Milisa Kekic restored their lead in the 73rd minute before Julia Amireh sealed the result with a quick brace in the 80th and 86th minutes, condemning Nigeria to a heavy defeat.

The Flamingos will aim to revive their qualification hopes when they face France on Wednesday, while Canada will look to secure early passage to the knockout rounds when they meet Samoa.
