Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship: Abuja, Benue Picks Central Slots

Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja will represent Central Zone at the National finals of the Milo Nestle Secondary school basketball championship following their triumph at the Central Conference Playoffs held in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Karu Boys gave a dominant display to from start to finish, leading 21-9 at half time before wrapping up the game 35-24 points in front of a mammoth crowd in Ilorin on Thursday, 19th May, 2022.

In the Girls final, Akpur Girls College, Gboko, Benue State were too good for Queen Amina College of Kaduna 35-21 in a championship filled with lots of excitement for the players and spectators together with Music, funfare and the Explicit Dance Group performances at intervals.

Oche Nwafor of Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) following his strings of impressive display on the floor throughout the championship while Hemban Vera Suewese representing Akpur Girls College picked the female version of the award.

Fair play awards were scooped home by Saint Anthony Secondary School, Ilorin and Government Science School, Lafia, Nasarawa State in both the Boys and Girls categories respectively.

Schools that featured in the boys category include, Government Secondary School, Karu, FCT Abuja, Zaruma Middle School College Minna, St. Anthony College, Ilorin, CAC Secondary school, Benue, Christ Comprehensive College, Kaduna, Sani Dangyadi Unity School, Sokoto and Government Science College, Nasarawa State.

Akpur Girls College, Benue, Queen Amina College, Kaduna, Zaruman Middle School, Niger, Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja, Government Science School, Nasarawa, Hafsatu Ahmadu Bello Memorial Science College, Sokoto and St. Anthony Secondary School, Kwara state all competed in the Girls version.

Top Dignitaries in the Sport Industry including Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, National Coordinator of the Tournament, Col. Samuel Ahmedu, Mallam Tunde Kazeem (CEO Kazolink Sport Consult Ltd), Aliyu Jubril (Chairman, Kwara State Basketball Association), Pepetual Clement(Member, Kwara State Basketball Association), Coach Baba Jubril (Head Coach, Kwara Falcons), Representatives of the Milo Nestle Company and other personalities all grace the Tournament Finale.
