Mikel: We Welcome Young Players In Eagles

Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi has disclosed that many young players are currently making waves with the Super Eagles because they are always made to feel at home by the older colleagues.

Mikel, who is captain of both club and country, disclosed as much in a chat with sports247.ng, in which he stressed that the current Eagles’ set-up is very conducive for young talents to make their mark.

The former Lyn Oslo of Norway and Chelsea of England star said it was not so in the past, as he recounted how featuring for the national team used to be very scary and young players had to pay their dues.

While pointing out that it is now easier for all players to be comfortably accepted into the current Eagles’ ranks, Mikel enthused that it is one of the major factors that would help them win next year’s Cup of Nations.

Mikel added: “Things are now different in the current squad. We try to make sure that any newly invited player settles down without any worry.

“It is one of the reasons why I believe the Eagles will do all they can to clinch the next title of the AFCON in 2019 to be hosted by Cameroon.

“With so much unity and motivation, as the team’s current captain, I believe we are capable of winning next year in Cameroon.”
