Sports247 reports that Mikel was so incensed by the outspoken and heated manner in which Fernandez hinted that he could make a summer exit from The Blues, following their ongoing struggles in the English Premier League.

The 25-year-old Argentine midfielder, who joined The Blues in a £108m transfer in 2023, went public at the weekend, to further cast doubt over his future at Stamford Bridge, less than a month after he first raised eyebrows about the struggling Londoners.

Fernandez initially expressed his misgivings after the team’s UEFA Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, and he reiterated his verdict last weekend, as he expressed love for Madrid while on international duty with his country.

He made his thoughts known in a livestream with Argentine channel, SpiderCARP, which asked Fernandez which other city he would like to live in and he declared, “Madrid… I like Madrid very much… it’s similar to Buenos Aires.”

That expression left Mikel furious and he countered fiercely through his Obi One Podcast, telling Fernandez: “That’s not a leader. If you have leaders that players respect and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make those statements.

“You’d be thinking, ‘How is this going to go down in the dressing room? How is this going to go down with the top players, the big players, when they see this?’ You were the captain in that game and you come out and make those statements.

“How would that go down well with the senior players in the dressing room? The leadership is not there. For him to come out and make such a statement after wearing the captain’s armband… no player is bigger than the football club.”
