Mexico vs Nigeria: “I Am Happy With My Players’ Performance”– Peseiro

Super Eagles technical adviser, Jose Peseiro has heaped praises on his players despite their 2-1to the El Tri of Mexico in what was his first match in charge of the team.

Santiago Gimenez put Mexico ahead as early as the 12th minute before Cyriel Dessers restored parity in the 54th minute as he nodded into the net from a Calvin Bassey’s perfectly placed cross.

The El Tri were ahead just two minutes later after Eagles’ assistant captain Troost-Ekong deflected Gallardo’s low cross into his own net.

At the post match conference, Peseiro believed his players showed commendable character and also stated that he is satisfied with the performances of his players.

“In the first half, Mexico were better than us but we gained more balance in the second half. We played and controlled the ball more because our team came out steady every time, our players controlled the ball in the match, the second half was much better.”

“We lost because Mexico created more opportunities. I’m not happy that we lost but I’m happy with the performance of my players. They showed character because after the first half, Mexico was easy for us, I think we improved much better in the second half.” He concluded.

Nigeria will fly out to New Jersey for their next match against Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena next Thursday.
