A Powerful Journey in the Ring
Kayode, now 42, made his professional debut in 2008 and quickly built a fearsome reputation with his explosive knockout power.
He stormed through his early career, racking up victories and earning a name as a dangerous contender in the cruiserweight and later, heavyweight divisions.
One of his career highlights came on December 3, 2010, when he delivered a devastating knockout against Edward Charles Perry on a nationally televised Showtime boxing card.
In that fight, Kayode demonstrated a composed yet lethal approach, landing a perfectly timed right hand in the sixth round that sent Perry, who had never previously been knocked down in 13 years , crashing to the canvas.
Another memorable performance came on June 10, 2011, when Kayode overwhelmed seasoned opponent Matt Godfrey at the Chumash Resort Casino. Dominating from start to finish, Kayode dropped Godfrey three times — in rounds one, five, and nine — en route to a commanding unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-90, 97-90, and 98-89.
A Career Seeking Redemption
After an undefeated run in his early years, Kayode suffered his first professional loss in 2015 and has since gone four fights without a win.
His most recent bout, also in 2018, ended in retirement at the hands of Aleksey Egorov.
Since then, Lateef ‘Power’ Kayode has been out of the spotlight, but tonight’s return marks a pivotal moment as he aims to reignite his career and deliver one more chapter of triumph.
Though the odds may favor the younger and unbeaten Trujillo, Kayode brings experience, resilience, and genuine knockout power into the ring.
Known for his aggressive style and unyielding spirit, the Lagos-born fighter is determined to turn back the clock and hand Trujillo the first defeat of his career.
As the bell rings tonight, fans can expect fireworks.
Will Kayode rise again on the big stage? The world will be watching as ‘Power’ looks to make a statement — and perhaps, a comeback.
