MEDIA STATEMENT FROM AFRICA STUDENTS FOOTBALL UNION LTD/GTE (ASFU) PRESIDENT ON THE BARBARIC ACTS OF VANDALISM & HOOLIGANISM BY NIGERIA SPECTATORS

The International Student Football Union Africa Coordinator and African Students Football Union President – Prof. Olwaseun Omotayo as described the incident that occurred after the Nigerian Super Eagles drew with the Black Stars of Ghana at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja during the crucial African Qualifier match toward FIFA Qatar World cup   “as an unfortunate incidence that should be highly condemned.

 

Speaking further on the incident, ‘he said that Nigeria Spectators should be heavily reprimanded for the barbaric and uncivilized response to a defeat’.

 

In his reaction to a statement credited to the World governing Football Authority- FIFA on the ugly Tuesday night stadium encroachment and destruction which state that “The relevant information included in the match reports will be evaluated by the competent disciplinary bodies before deciding on the next steps to be taken”

 

The Former Sports Psychologist of the Nigeria U20 National Team –Damman Miracle class of 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship opined that should the NFF be sanctioned by FIFA for not being preemptive of the Management of the contagion fallout of vandalism and hooliganism at the end of the encounter, which is a possibility, He further advised the Nigeria Football Authorities to commence the review of Video footages of the incident with the support of all the Security agents of government with a view of arresting and prosecuting some of the vandals as deterrent for future occurrence.

 

Prof Omotayo on behalf of ASFU commiserates with the Presidents of FIFA & CAF and the family of Dr Joseph Kabungo the FIFA/CAF Medical Officer who tragically died of cardiac arrest in circumstances unrelated to the acts of Vandalism and hooliganism of Nigeria Spectators. He prays for a good repose of his soul while I pray God to give his family the fortitude to cope at this time.
