Media industry to cut staff, no assurance of job stability by the government

Walter Saltos Munoz, CPDE President

The virus attacked at lightning speed most of the countries of this planet, some are from the first world, others are in the process of development, others are underdeveloped and others are emerging (a large number), so it depends largely on the economy of each nation to defend against the pandemic.

The media is also included in the dizzying decline of economies and, of course, the victims are journalists. In Ecuador, the situation is not alarming, but for the moment what is worrying is how long this emergency would last, because it will be decisive for the job stability of sports journalists in our case since the sport is paralysed in all its manifestations.

There are private media, government media, and these have begun to cut staff according to their needs, we have spoken with immediate superiors and people linked to the spheres of government, and we have obtained responses that do not give assurance of job stability.

The cases are different, there are different settings, we are different cultures, we are of different decisions. The analysis must be very smart.

We are not calm, we are very worried.
