Maro Itoje Admits England’s Rugby Team Must Improve In Ball Possession

England rugby team’s Nigerian-born captain, Maro Itoje has admitted that the Red Roses need to improve their ball holding skills and maintain possession during matches in order to win.

Sports247 reports that, following defeats by Scotland and Ireland in the ongoing Six Nations Series, England look down and out, but Itoje is staying optimistic that they can still pick up the pieces.

Itoje won his 100th cap on Saturday, as he started in the second row, but could not celebrate his centenary game with victory, as Ireland won 42-21 at Twickenham.

It was a sordid performance at home and, though the captain humbly accepted responsibility for England’s defeat, he noted the need for improved tactics in their next game.

He also refused to rule England out of the title race, despite sitting five points adrift of leaders, France, who are yet to play their third-round fixture, but admitted that The Red Roses have to be quicker off the mark and more accurate.

“We weren’t clinical. As players we have to own it. We have to take responsibility and make sure we’re better. Ultimately, we weren’t accurate. We got into good positions. We didn’t come away with points or score.

“We know it’s not good enough. We’ll be working harder to get it right. We need to look after the ball. We need to make sure our possessions are accurate. Ultimately, we turned the ball over too much,” Itoje acknowledged.
