Manchester United should sign Wilfred Ndidi – Paul Scholes

Ex-Manchester United player Paul Scholes has urged his former club to sign Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi when the summer transfer window opens.

United are currently light in midfield options following the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata. The club is being linked with a number of alternatives as they seek a massive rebuild under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Scholes, who spent his whole career with the Red Devils and also represented England at international level has advised the club to look no farther than their league opponents to strengthen their midfield. The 47-year-old told Football Daily:

“Leicester’s Wilfred [Ndidi] still very much fits the bill of what Man United are looking for, and with just two years remaining on his contract at Leicester, it’s likely to cost significantly less than the eye-watering sums associated with him in summer past.

“And while he missed the last two months of the season with a knee injury, he remains one of the best defensive midfielders in the game when fit, averaging an astounding 6.5 tackles and interceptions each match and ranking in the top seven per cent of midfielders for aerial duels, too.”

Ndidi, 25, had an injury-riddled 2021/22 season with The Foxes. The Nigerian international managed to make 31 appearances despite missing a large chunk of the season through a knee injury.
