Nigeria’s under-23 national team coach, Imama Amapakabo has put a call through to Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, with a view to including the youngster in his squad for next month’s qualifiers.

Sports247.ng learnt that Amapakabo, who last week rolled out a list of 33 invitees to his maiden camp in charge of the squad, is of a view that he can start the 19-year-old shot-stopper in ‘Dream Team 7.’

Okoye earlier this week confirmed his readiness to commit his future for international appearances to Nigeria and, though born in Germany, the mulatto keeper says he is not thinking of playing for his country of birth.
Although Okoye admitted he has never watched the Super Eagles play live in any stadium, he is eager to don Nigeria’s green-and-white colours.

Born in Düsseldorf, Okoye was earlier approached by former Eagles star-turned-national team scout, Victor Okechukwu Agali over committing his future to Nigeria instead of Germany.
The youngster star has already declared that he is more than ready to take up Nigeria’s offer, and disclosed how happy he was to get a trunk call from Amapakabo.

Okoye said: ”Imama Amapakabo contacted me that he wants to have me in the Olympic Squad. It’s almost the best feeling. It is a big dream.
”This is a big step, and I’m going to take this chance and prove myself. I think he’s one of the coaches of the Super Eagles.
“My dad is very happy, and he will be proud of me more than ever. He has always prayed for this, and I have always prayed for this as well.”
