Former Nigeria international Loveday Omoruyi has expressed unwavering confidence that the Super Eagles will still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the tight situation in their group.
The ex-defender believes that the current squad possesses the talent, experience, and mental toughness needed to overcome the final hurdles in their qualification campaign.

Speaking from his base in Europe, Omoruyi said that while no team can be underestimated in modern football, Nigeria’s individual brilliance and depth should be enough to deliver the needed results against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
“There are no easy games in football anymore,” Omoruyi said. “But if we play to our strength, stay focused, and remain disciplined, I believe the Super Eagles will still qualify. We’ve been here before, and we’ve always found a way.”
He added that the team’s fate is largely in their own hands, noting that back-to-back wins in their final fixtures would put immense pressure on group rivals South Africa and Benin, especially after FIFA’s recent points deduction against the Bafana Bafana.
“Nigeria’s quality is not in doubt,” he continued. “We have players performing in top leagues across Europe — from Osimhen to Lookman, Ndidi, Bassey, and Iwobi. The key now is teamwork and mentality. We can’t afford to start slowly or lose concentration in crucial moments.”
Omoruyi also emphasized the need for more goals and ruthless finishing, urging the forwards to take their chances and kill off games early.
“Our biggest issue has been converting opportunities,” he said. “You can’t win tight qualifiers if you don’t score. The players must take responsibility — every goal counts now.”
He concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, insisting that the Super Eagles will rise to the occasion and restore pride to the nation’s football.
