Lokosa’s Brace Powers Sporting Lagos To Victory, Coach Offor Impressed With Striker’s Impact

Sporting Lagos coach Paul Offor has praised striker Junior Lokosa for his impressive display in their 3-0 victory over Kano Pillars in a match-day seven game of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Lokosa, who finished as the highest goal scorer in the league in 2018 while playing for Kano Pillars, scored a brace in the game to take his tally to three goals in the season.

Offor expressed his delight with Lokosa’s impact both on and off the pitch, highlighting the striker’s wealth of experience and ability to help younger players in the team. “I’ve never had doubts about him.

What he does for us in the dressing room is the most important thing for me. He helps the young strikers in the team, like Jonathan and Okon score goals. That’s very important for me,” Offor said via the club website.

Lokosa’s brace against his former side helped Sporting Lagos move up to sixth place in the table, and although he is still three goals behind the leader of the goal scorer’s chart, Bayelsa United’s Robert Mizo, many have tipped him to finish as the highest goal scorer in the NPFL this season.

The 27-year-old striker has had stints in other African countries with Esperance in Tunisia and Simba FC in Tanzania before returning to the NPFL with Kwara United in 2021. He also made a few appearances for Remo Stars last season before joining Sporting Lagos.

Despite his slow start in the NPFL this season, Lokosa’s form has picked up in recent games, and his coach believes that he will continue to deliver for the team. “The fact that we were able to keep a clean sheet felt really good. I’m happy we scored and I’m happy with the performance,” Offor added.

With Lokosa leading the attack, Sporting Lagos looks set to make a strong push for the title this season. Their next game is against Abia Warriors, and if Lokosa continues his fine form, they may be able to secure another vital win.
