A historic victory saw the Lobi Stars U19 side secure the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Youth Championship playoff ticket with a 3-2 win over Rivers United at the Ginger Stadium in Abia State. Despite suspensions to key defenders Karshima Abater and Amour of God Anko, Head Coach Stephen Waghbo’s tactical adjustments paid off.

Jacob Detso opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a stunning volley, and although Rivers United equalised just before halftime through Marvellous Uwordu, Lobi Stars regained the lead with goals from Sani Audu (61′) and Daniel Onu (68′). Felix Okwodu’s late consolation goal for Rivers United couldn’t change the outcome.
Lobi Stars finished top of Group B with 9 points from three matches, maintaining their unbeaten record. Coach Waghbo praised his team’s dominant performance, saying, “Securing this ticket is historic. I’m overwhelmed with the performance of my team. We’ll continue to work hard ahead of the next stage of the competition.”
The team’s impressive campaign saw them score 7 goals and concede 4 in the group stage.
