Lobi Stars, Rangers To Tango In NPFL Group A

Lobi Stars of Makurdi, who will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League, and Rangers of Enugu, who will play in the CAF Confederation Cup, have been drawn in Group A of the new NPFL season, while Kano Pillars and Plateau United of Jos will feature in Group B.

Rangers will open against Niger Tornadoes of Minna, while Lobi Stars face Katsina United, with the other group seeing 2016 champions, Plateau United of Jos face FC Ifeanyiubah and Kano Pillars vs Heartland of Owerri.

Sports247.ng reports that a total of 20 were grouped in two different groups with four promoted teams in the NNL expected to join the already twenty NPFL clubs to make it twenty four after the crisis rocking the Nigeria National league NNL must have been resolved.

The 2018/19 season will be played on abridged format as teams will be selected to join either of the two abridged group based on their location (North and South).

Lobi Stars are the defending champions of the league having emerged victorious by default, after Nigerian football stakeholders agreed that the season should be brought to its end.

That was mostly because of the leadership tussle in Nigeria Football Federation post-2018 World Cup finals in Russia and they will represent Nigeria in the Caf Champions League.
