Former Super Eagles defender Leon Aderemi Balogun has spoken of his determination to help his new team, Győri ETO FC of Hungary, ‘maintain appropriate standards,’ following his arrival on a one-year contract from Aris Limassol of Cyprus.
Sports247 reports that the mulatto defender, who was born in Germany but opted to commit his international future to Nigeria in 2014, said he is determined to settle down very quickly at his new base, after officially joining the Hungarian champions on a free transfer.
The 38-year-old centre-back, who was born on June 28th, 1988, in Berlin and made his German Bundesliga debut on April 19th, 2009, for Hannover 96 versus SV Hamburg, is hoping to continue making the best of his career twilight, as he links up with his 12th club.
Balogun, who has also played for Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt 98, SV Mainz, Brighton & Hove Albion, Wigan Athletic, Glasgow Rangers and Queens Park Rangers, hopes to excel beyond the impact he had last season at Limassol, where he got two goals and an assist in 22 games.
He told his new club’s official website: “I am very happy to be a player of ETO FC, as this is an extremely exciting project. I think the team has already shown what it is capable of in the first few matches.
“Now it is important to define and maintain the appropriate standard so that we can continue to build on the successes of last season. I look forward to joining the team and contributing my experience and strengths.”
