Spanish sports publication Diario AS has revealed that Leganes is considering this move as it would not only generate funds but also help reduce their wage bill.

Omeruo, an experienced central defender, is said to be eager for a new challenge after spending five seasons with Leganes, including three in the Segunda Division. The Nigerian international believes that he can explore opportunities in higher-profile leagues. With this desire in mind, Omeruo is ready to part ways with his current club.

In preparation for Omeruo’s potential departure, Leganes has already taken steps to reinforce their defensive options. They recently secured the services of Aritz Arambarri, a 25-year-old central defender who previously played for Real Sociedad. This signing signals Leganes’ proactive approach in planning for life without Omeruo.

Additionally, Leganes is actively seeking to strengthen their right-back position, which would enable Allan Nyom to transition to the center of defense. By reshaping their defensive line, the club aims to maintain stability and fortify their backline for future challenges.

Omeruo’s contract with Leganes still has one year remaining. It has been speculated that the club would demand a fee of approximately one million euros for the defender, considering that this amount corresponds to the remaining amortization of his original transfer fee. Leganes initially acquired Omeruo’s services for a sum of five million euros four years ago.

During his time at Leganes, Kenneth Omeruo has made 123 appearances, displaying his defensive prowess and contributing five goals and two assists to the team’s cause. The Nigerian stalwart’s leadership was recently recognized when he captained the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the future of Kenneth Omeruo remains uncertain. Football enthusiasts will eagerly watch as clubs and potential suitors assess the opportunity to acquire the experienced defender, while Leganes evaluates its options to strengthen and reshape its squad.
